I love to visit an elephant statue that sits in an old playground in Homestead, PA, a town which was once the world’s largest steel producer. The playground statue has seen thousands of children come and go in its lifetime and is one of the few remains left of the town’s history after over 20 years of redevelopment. The elephant and several rusted nails are enveloped by a cast of hand poured wax, representing the edging out of history by the demolition of industrial sites and their eventual redevelopment.
