Encaustic on wood with nails and patina

“Manic” is part painting, part sculpture. I created this piece by methodically hammering over 3 dozen nails into a wood panel and surrounding them with a cast of poured wax. The surface below has been treated with a glaze of iron and patina. This piece represents the industrial legacy of the rust belt and its slow reduction by new, slick, modern developments.
