Tension between pure white newness and the rust and decay of the old mimick the sentiments of commercial and retail developments over post-industrial sites. In Pittsburgh over the last decade or so, the pace of redevelopment has been feverish. Several neighborhoods are struggling to maintain their histories and even their resident populations, as developers battle in bidding wars over spots for condos and office buildings and displace families who have been a part of the fabric of the community for generations.
